LPR: Over 2,000 Ukrainian mercenaries are surrounded in Lisichansk

Over 2,000 soldiers from the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is currently surrounded in Lisichansk, defended by foreign mercenaries.

This was reported to TASS on Saturday by the Assistant Minister of Internal Affairs of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) Vitaly Kiselev.

“Now in Lisichansk and its surroundings there are about 2,150 “disposable fighters”. These are those who were forcibly left here – who were brought from Lviv, Rivne region, from near Odessa, from Dnipropetrovsk, so that they protect a whole army of mercenaries,” he said.

Did Lisichansk also fall into Russian hands?

Kiselev added that the forces of the LPR and the Russian Federation are preparing to completely liberate Lisichansk in the coming days.

“The complete liberation of Lisichansk is being prepared in the coming days,” he said.

We remind you that yesterday the Russian authorities announced that they had reached the city of Lisichansk.

This was announced by the spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov.

“In the last three days, the oil refinery in Lisichansk, the Matroska mine, the gelatin factory and the village of Topolevka were taken under control. Allied forces reached Lisichansk directly,” Konashenkov said at his regular briefing this morning.

He stated that the “successful offensive in the Lisichansk region” continues, the Ukrainian army is suffering heavy losses in the region and is retreating in a disorganized manner.

Lisychansk is the last large settlement in Luhansk region that the Ukrainians control.

The neighboring city of Severodonetsk was captured by the Russian army earlier after weeks of fighting. The capture of Lisychansk, in turn, would allow Russia to turn its attention to Kramatorsk and Slavyansk to the west in its bid to conquer the Donbass, Ukraine’s industrial heartland.
