Low Purine Diet Menu, Helps Lower Gout

Purines are found in the body and are found in all foods from living cells, namely plants and animals.

The form of uric acid which is like sharp crystals causes the body to feel achy in the joint area and is often accompanied by extreme pain when levels increase.

People with gout arthritis need to adjust their daily diet to reduce high uric acid levels, reduce gout attacks, and avoid getting uric acid to worsen to the risk of kidney stones.

Nutritionists usually recommend gout arthritis sufferers with a Low Purine Diet (DRP). This diet practically aims to lower uric acid levels in the blood and urine, as well as maintain an ideal weight.

A low-purine diet also helps reduce purine intake and facilitates the elimination of uric acid. The principle of the Low Purine Diet is to provide energy intake as needed.

The following are tips and menus for the Low Purine Diet that help reduce uric acid, according to Nadiyah, a nutritionist and lecturer in the nutrition study program at Esa Unggul University, Jakarta.

1. Protein is enough 1-1.2 g/kg body weight.
2. Avoid high-purine foods.
3. Consumption of fat in moderation or low, because excess fat can inhibit the expenditure of purines through the urine.
4. Carbohydrates are given mainly from complex carbohydrates.
5. Sufficient fluid needs, an average of 2-2.5 liters per day.
6. Avoid dehydration because it will complicate the disposal of uric acid through urine.

An example of a 150 kcal Low Purine Diet menu pattern is as follows:

Morning:

– Rice cup,
– 1 chicken egg
– Vegetables cup
– Oil 1 tsp
– Skim milk 4 tbsp
– Afternoon:
– 1 cup of rice
– Fish 40 gr
– Tempe 25 gr
– Oil 1 tsp
– 1 cup vegetables
– Fruit 100 gr

Evening:

– 1 cup of rice
– Chicken 40 gr
– Tempe 25 gr
– Oil 1 tsp
– 1 cup vegetables
– Fruit 100 gr

When you feel hungry, don’t worry because there are morning and evening interludes that can be filled by consuming 100 grams of fruit each.
