Louis Vuitton Norway received close to 900,000 kroner in corona support – the owners will take out 40 million in dividends

It writes E24.

The company’s store in Oslo normally receives a large part of its income from foreign tourists. The store therefore closed when Norway closed its borders as a result of the corona crisis, and the company applied for support for March to June 2020 through the compensation scheme for companies.

In total, Louis Vuitton Norway received NOK 893,091.

But the decline in sales was much lower than expected and ended at only 6 percent against the budgeted 20 percent, according to the annual report.

Proposes 40.1 million in dividends

The turnover was DKK 176 million in 2020, down from DKK 188 million in 2019, and the annual result ended at DKK 40.1 million. The result was proposed to be paid in dividends to the French owner company, Louis Vuitton Malletier SAS.

E24 has been in contact with Louis Vuitton Norway. They do not want to comment on the matter.

The Storting discussed whether a ban on dividends should be introduced for companies that received support, which LO also supported, but this was not adopted. Thus, it is perfectly legal to take dividends and receive support in the same year.

– A scandal

SV leader Audun Lysbakken calls the case a scandal and believes that workers have paid the price for the crisis.

– This is a nitrous reminder of Erna Solberg’s lack of demands on the rich during the pandemic. It is a scandal that the community’s money will go to enrich the shareholders of Luis Vuitton. It puts the whole society’s effort against the corona in disgrace, says Lysbakken to NTB.

– SV has again and again demanded that the support to the business community had to be combined with demands for zero dividends. Then absurd situations like this would have been avoided. Incredibly, the Conservatives and the government have said no. They bear full responsibility for this, he says.
