“Lost in three pines.” Rinkēvičs expresses his indignation at the letters from the Ministry of Economy

But the tone of the letter from the Ministry of Economy does not sound like an encouragement to open a discussion, but more like a defender of the interests of the two companies linked to the Russian Uralhim.

Extracts from the letter from the Ministry of Economy:

The Ministry invites the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice to find a quick solution for the continuation of the activities of the sanctioned companies without violating the sanctions imposed on Russia and Belarus.

SIA “Ventamonjaks” has a unique infrastructure: the largest liquid ammonia export and import terminal in the Baltic Sea,

This indicates that the infrastructure created in Latvia for loading and storing mineral fertilizers is also important on the other side of the Baltic.

Taking into account that this infrastructure is already available in Latvia, it would be uneconomical to stop the SIA “Ventamoniaks” terminal.

Technological removal of liquefied ammonia from the terminal means depressing the terminal forever, as it will require large capital investments and at least a year to get started.

The practice of Lithuania and other EU countries (e.g. Croatia, Poland, Romania) shows that it is possible to create a legal framework so that a sanctioned company can continue to operate without violating sanctions.

It is possible to create a “firewall” for sanctioned companies, thus removing the influence of a sanctioned person in the company.
