Lost hair after hairdressing hour: – I can’t bear to look in the mirror

On Thursday, Soumia showed up to her hairdressing class at Hair Cut in Trondheim. She brought with her a picture of how she wanted her hair to be and asked for the color “ice blonde”.

According to the hairdressing salon, it was a demanding treatment to perform as Soumia had dark untreated post-growth and already bleached tips.

– The hairdresser was very skeptical about taking such a treatment because of the quality of the hair in the length. They nevertheless agreed to implement, since the customer wanted this, despite the fact that there was a risk, says CEO Eva Hoemsnes Grøtte.

Soumia, who will remain anonymous in this case, rejects this.

– I was not warned, the hairdresser said yes to the color I wanted, she says.

After Soumia had settled into the chair, the hairdresser dyed and wrapped her hair in foil.

– I noticed it was burning and itching more than it used to, but the hairdresser said it was normal. After two rounds of bleaching, the hairdresser checked the foil again and then I saw that some of the hair had come loose. Then I heard the hairdresser say “oh, shit,” says Soumia.

Panicked

The hairdresser rushed Soumia over to the sink and began to rinse her hair.

– When he removed the foil, only my hair came along. I panicked and got up from my chair, and then I saw that my hair just fell down my shoulders and hit the ground. Then I started screaming, says Soumia.

As the hairdresser continued to complain, Soumia stood in complete panic.

– I called my cohabitator hysterically and said that the hairdresser had damaged my hair. He came at once and demanded to speak to the manager, she says.

After her manager Eva Hoemsnes Grøtte was notified, she went straight to the salon.

– I’ve never seen anything like it during my career. What had happened was what we call a “chemical cut”, which means that the hair was too weak in contact with the chemicals, so it simply does not release. It’s the hairstylist’s worst nightmare, she says.

Would limit the extent of damage

According to the CEO, she tried to calm the situation as best she could.

– The customer was so upset that she would not let us wash out the chemicals, which would limit the extent of the damage. At the same time, the cohabitant behaved so threateningly to my employees that I had to close the salon, says Grøtte.

She says that she was finally able to calm the customer down and wash her hair.

– I cut it to the same length, but advised not to undergo a new treatment at that time. The customer did not want advice from us and therefore rejected this. When the hair is so damaged, it must rest, says Grøtte.

She sent gentle products to care for the customer’s hair, saying that she could come at a new hour when her hair had become stronger.

Soumia, for its part, has a different view of what happened after the treatment.

– I found that the hairdressers blamed me and were only concerned about the products I had used before. They thought I must have used poor quality shampoo or dry shampoo. I did not feel that they were understanding or complaining properly, ”she says.

Has removed the mirrors

Soumia says that she has struggled greatly after the hairdresser’s visit.

– I felt ugly. In addition, it began to scratch the scalp. So I contacted the emergency room on the phone, who said I had to come along sometime. They said that there was irritation to the scalp and that the skin at the hairline was red, she says.

TV 2 has received a letter from the GP, which confirms the information.

Soumia says that she has been asked to stay away from the sun and bath until irritation has subsided. In the meantime, she can only wash her scalp with cold water.

– I have post-traumatic stress syndrome and go to trauma treatment. When you are mentally ill from before and unsure of yourself, it becomes absolutely awful when something like that happens. Now I feel completely on leash and just sit at home, she says.

She says that she also can’t bear to look in the mirror anymore.

– I wear caps and look down as I pass the mirrors in the hallway. I have removed the mirror in the bathroom, she says.

The GP also chose to take her sick leave for 14 days as Soumia works in a store and is not allowed to use caps there.

– Can’t give back the hair

The general manager at Hair Cut in Trondheim believes that the hairdressing salon has done what they can to try to meet the customer after the accident first happened.

– It became a very difficult situation on the spot as the customer became so hysterical, and the cohabitant’s threatening behavior. Otherwise, something we are considering to report to the police. We still want to follow up the customer in the future so that in the long term she can get a result that is as good as possible, says Eva Hoemsnes Grøtte.

At the same time, she says she understands that the customer thinks the situation is difficult.

– I wish I could give her back her hair, but I can’t. I am a lady myself and know how important hair is to us, she says.

Should say no

Porridge says that the hairdresser who performed the treatment has 15 years of experience, but that he should still say no to such a difficult treatment.

– We always want to help customers so they get what they want. In this situation, there was probably a desire for an unattainable result, but it is easy to be hindsight. We should have regretted and said no to the treatment, so we could avert much of the damage, says the general manager.

Will not return

Soumia says she reported the incident to the police.

Although the hair salon has offered her to come back for free treatments when her hair has become strong enough, she does not want to take advantage of this.

– I still miss an explanation from Hair Cut as to why this happened to my hair. I also do not feel that they have taken any responsibility in contacting me further. Such things are now I also do not trust them, and therefore will not return, says Suomia.
