Los Angeles County health authorities announced a new milestone in the pandemic on Wednesday, as the number of 10,000 people died due to coronavirus.

The most populous county in the United States has been the largest epicenter of the pandemic for a few weeks with constant numbers of new cases of COVID-19 and saturated hospitals, causing a fragile public health situation.

The 10,000 deaths were reached after it was reported that in the past 24 hours there were 274 deaths to reach 10,056. It was also indicated 10,392 new cases and a partial of 7,415 hospitalizations.

“We will need to be prepared for another rally that will start with even more cases in January.”warned Dr. Bárbara Ferrer, the county’s public health director.

This numerical X-ray of the pandemic explains why California authorities indefinitely extended the stay-at-home order to the Southern California region this week.

While this is happening, Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed today that the first case of the new strain of the coronavirus, which is supposed to be more contagious, has been discovered. The governor said the case is in Southern California.
