Lorraine firefighters in reinforcement in the South on forest fires

14 firefighters from Meurthe-et-Moselle headed for the South of France this Friday, August 21. They will lend a hand to their colleagues in Bouches-du-Rhône in anticipation of possible new outbreaks of forest fires due to unfavorable weather conditions.

These are 14 firefighters from Longwy, Bayon, Nancy or Lunéville, all volunteers who left this Friday, August 21, 2020 from Pont-à-Mousson (Meurthe-et-Moselle) to go to reinforce the forest fires in the Bouches-du-Rhône.
In the ranks, professionals and volunteers who left Meurthe-et-Moselle by road around 9.45 am.

With their eight vehicles, including two forest fire tankers, they will be pre-positioned in the South of France in anticipation of the fires that are to be feared due to the unfavorable winds and the severe drought.
The “Bravo” column of fire will be on site around 8 pm and all the men will be mobilized from this evening and for a period of one week.
Only personnel trained in forest fire management are likely to leave on this type of mission.“recalls Bertrand Lepoutère lieutenant-colonel of SDIS 54.
All men are trained in forest fires, some men had already volunteered in 2017. In Meurthe-et Moselle 180 firefighters are trained in forest fire management on the 2,800 volunteer and professional firefighters of the department.
The Meurthe-et-Mosellans have reunited with their colleagues from Haute-Marne, Haute-Saône and Côte d’Or.

In total, the group of about fifty men is part of the “Bravo” reinforcement column.
Each summer, volunteer Lorraine firefighters are part of the reinforcements positioned in the south of France.

A first column “Est Alpha”, had been mobilized 15 days ago with in their ranks firefighters from the Bas-Rhin.
