Her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, was sentenced to five months in prison a few hours earlier for his involvement in this scandal.

In addition to his prison sentence, Giannulli was ordered to pay a $ 250,000 fine and perform 250 hours of community service.

His wife, Loughlin, had pleaded guilty in May to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud after she and Giannulli denied involvement in the scandal for a year.

The prosecution accused them of conspiring to launder money from bribes and other payments through a charity run by Rick Singer, considered the alleged mastermind of the fraud, as well as transferring money to the United States to promote this plot.

According to court documents, Loughlin and her husband agreed to pay bribes of $ 500,000 in exchange for their two daughters being accepted into the rowing team at the University of Southern California, even though they did not play the sport, in order to facilitate their admission. .

In 2019, the US Department of Justice unveiled a network of millionaire bribes from wealthy families, including those of actresses Felicity Huffman and Loughlin, to facilitate their children’s access to prestigious universities such as Yale, Georgetown or Stanford.

The Prosecutor’s Office of a court in Boston (Massachusetts) then accused about 50 people, including sports coaches, of organizing a plot to falsify and cheat in the entrance exams to several universities, in which 25 million were paid dollars in bribes.

Other parents paid to take false exams of their children and thus obtain higher grades in order to enter these educational centers, some of the most prestigious in the country.
