Louis Mountbatten’s car will go under the hammer on March 24. Prince Philip’s late uncle had a Jaguar 420 built in 1967, which is now up for auction, international auction house Sotheby’s reports. ITV.
The 1967 vehicle was painted in the so-called Mountbatten Blue color at the request of Mountbatten. There are special emblems of the count on the front doors and on the roof.
The car is still driving and should yield around £ 10,000 to £ 20,000 (£ 11,000 to £ 22,000). After Mountbatten’s death, the car was owned by his eldest daughter Patricia, who passed away in 2017. Sotheby’s will be auctioning off its most valuable assets.
Mountbatten was murdered in 1979 while on holiday in Ireland. He died in a bomb blast on his boat Shadow V. The attack was claimed by the Irish Republican Army. The perpetrator, Thomas McMahon, was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was released in 1998.
