On Tuesday, the Afghan Taliban agreed to ban university education for girls, in a new step towards tightening restrictions on Afghan women.
“The Ministry of Higher Education has sent a letter to all public and private universities in the country stating that higher education for girls is prohibited until further notice,” ministry spokesman Hafiz Ziaullah Hashmi confirmed in the statement.

Women no longer have the right to travel without a male family member and must wear a burqa or headscarf when leaving the house.
In November, the movement banned women from public parks, gardens, gyms and swimming pools.
