Long Waiting Times at Zurich Airport Security Check Expected Until Summer

Passengers will probably have to get used to the huge queues in front of the security check at Zurich Airport for the time being. Waiting times of more than half an hour are now normal. Especially now, during spring break.

Because the limited security staff does receive support – but only in the summer months. This is explained by the Zurich cantonal police on request.

“The recruitment and training of additional, temporary assistants is currently taking place. These are intended to support the preparation of the security check in the summer months,” explains Ralph Hirt from Kapo Zurich.

The problem: Due to a lack of staff, the cantonal police are unable to provide the security check quota required by the airport. As a result, there have been long waiting times for weeks. And frustrated passengers.

In order to remedy the situation, the team should also be strengthened in the long term, as Ralph Hirt explains. The training of new employees for the airport control department is in full swing.

Five courses for control persons are planned for the next year. “One course is currently running, one has already been completed and three more will follow in the course of this year”.

Until something changes, the Zurich cantonal police recommend travelers to arrive at the airport two to three hours before departure. And only carry as much hand luggage as the airline allows.
