Janssen vaccination begins in Aragon

Janssen It could be the name of a Danish singer of those who move masses like the Beatles did or get as many other artists today. But no, it is the name of the pharmaceutical company with which Johnson and Johnson is making its vaccine against covid. The rage for accessing it, however, is similar to the hysteria over the big stars, despite the doubts regarding your safety that made the US paralyze its use (which has now been resumed).

This could be seen this morning at the Las Fuentes Norte health center, in Zaragoza, one of the five points at which it began to be inoculated today this new vaccine, which arrived in the community on Wednesday. A long line of people waited impatiently at the doors of the clinic and some had even been an hour ahead of the appointment they had reserved. “We had an appointment for 11.25 am,” commented a rig, Loli and Jesús, at the bottom of the queue when it was still 10.40 am. “We already imagined that there would be a lot of people, so we decided to go ahead,” they explained.

The problem, in part, has been that people, despite having the appointment at a specific time, have gone more well when they felt like it. And once in line, the toilets have been attending in order of arrival to avoid crowds and crowds. Nevertheless, the queue was going fast, and those who were waiting were approaching quickly towards the doors of the health center.

“Ah, this is just a dose? What joy you give me “Said a woman who was waiting in line accompanied by her daughter. “I did not know, no, but better, I will not return. The lady, named Marina Cotaina, assured that she was not afraid of any, rather eager: “We will be calmer, yes.” His daughter, who was holding his arm, nodded. “It is a great tranquility. I want everyone to get vaccinated, but them first, of course. It is already a step ”, explained the young woman.

Among those who waited, the desire and the expectation were the most recurrent feeling. “Afraid? None. Let’s see if this happens. You have to get vaccinated. Those who do not want to know any of this do very bad of him “Said a man, Arturo Ormaz, who at age 68 made an appointment on Thursday. “It was my son-in-law who did it because we had no way with the application. Was he all afternoon trying and at ten o’clock in the evening it jumped out that there was a hole, “he explained.

Cameras everywhere

Once inside, those who were going to be vaccinated seemed somewhat surprised by the large media presence at the health center. From the classic “Yes I know I comb my hair” until the “I let you record me but take me out pretty” or the “If I find out, I’ll come another day”, the vaccinated did not quite understand why everyone recorded them while they rolled up their sleeves before receiving the puncture. Of course, the cameras were able to contemplate the speed with which the residents of Zaragoza were marching past the nurse who administered the doses. In a few seconds another hole in the line had been smoothed out.

After receiving the injection, those vaccinated had to wait in a waiting room for 15 minutes in case any mishap arose. Ángel Rodríguez was one of them: “I turned 70 yesterday, so it’s a good gift. The truth is that I have been waiting a long time for this moment and it only lasts a few seconds. Now I am much calmer. I usually go to the gym and I was a little scared to hang out with other people, but not now. Let’s see if this bug is going, ”he commented. In his case, he had asked for an appointment yesterday Friday.

Ready, Set, Go!

Each time a vaccine is incorporated into the immunization strategy, the nurses in charge of administering it have to learn new tasks. Each one requires a treatment and the ways of mixing them with the serum are different, explains the director of Primary Care Nursing of Sector II of Zaragoza, Cristina Gómez. “Those from Pfizer are the most complicated, because they have to be mixed very carefully, but they are also the only ones that we can mobilize and take to the homes of people who cannot leave their homes,” he says. There are vials that have to be shaken from top to bottom, others that are turned on their side, and a specific amount has to be extracted from each brand. “We have everything prepared. The staff receives the technical sheet to learn how to use each one. And we do not open a vial (which are the little bottles in which the drugs come) until we have extracted all its contents from another. We have the syringes ready, ”he says.
