Himedik.com – Symptom Covid-19 long term or Long Covid can affect neurological problems. Problem neurological itself in Covid-19 patients is a common occurrence.

Launching from HealthshotsSome people who are hospitalized with Covid-19 experience delirium, they feel confused, disoriented, anxious, depressed, have insomnia, and are restless.

Not only that, some experience this cognitive impairment months after they have fully recovered from the infection.

Covid-19 can directly damage the brain by causing encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) of any severity. This in itself can have an adverse effect on the patient which can also lead to stroke in all age groups.

Covid-19 in the brain can cause systemic inflammation that can cause indirect neurological damage. Previously, people with comorbidities and aged over 65 were more at risk, but now with the new variant, there is ample evidence that the condition occurs even in younger people.

The following two types of brain problems are affected by Covid-19, including:

1. The short-term impact of Covid-19 on the brain

Encephalitis of any severity, leaving temporary or permanent residual damage to other cognitive and brain functions. Acute ischemic brain stroke is seen in all age groups of patients with or without comorbidities.

2. Long term impact

Cognitive impairment is seen in patients with COVID-19 infection lasting up to 4 to 7 months. More research is needed to look at the long-term effects on neural tissue.

A long-term Italian study revealed that those patients who had no symptoms of cognitive impairment during infection developed cognitive problems after six months of recovery.

Nearly 37.4 percent of cases experienced cognitive deficits and hyposmia (decreased sense of smell).

Apart from this, people have reported brain fog and some long term headaches that they had never experienced before. That seems to be a fairly common phenomenon in patients experiencing Long Covid.

Fatigue, memory problems, lack of concentration or sleep problems, muscle aches or headaches can be among the symptoms. In addition, loss of smell, feeling of depression or anxiety, dizziness that persists and worsens after physical activity.
