London: Putin must be held accountable for war crimes | Europe up to date | D.W.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his commanders will be held accountable for any war crimes during the Russian forces’ siege of Ukraine, British Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab said on Tuesday (01.03.2022).

“Those who engage in war crimes will be held accountable. It must be made clear to Putin and to commanders in Moscow and on the ground in Ukraine that they will be held accountable for any violation of the laws of war,” Raab said in a statement to the British channel Sky News.

The politician, a former foreign minister, expressed fear that Putin may resort to more dangerous tactics. Likewise, Raab considered that the incursion into Ukraine is becoming a misadventure for Putin due to “a demoralizing effect on the Russian forces” and because “it has had the effect of hardening the will of the Ukrainian people.”

The British Ministry of Defense reported this same day that the Russian forces advancing towards Kiev made little progress in the last 24 hours, probably due to continuing logistical difficulties. (EFE)
