Nineteen-year-old Josozumi was the worst of the Japanese trio – fourth overall – in qualifying, but in the first of three final races she received the highest mark of 60.09 points. The 2018 world champion left behind much younger rivals.
“I won gold by making 540 twice in a row. I hope that thanks to our performances, skateboarding will be very popular in Japan,” said 2018 world champion Josozumi, who left much younger rivals behind.
The silver was won by her twelve-year-old compatriot Kokona Hiraki, who missed the chance to become the youngest Olympic winner in history by about a point. The thirteen-year-old British Sky Brown, who was, like Hiraki, the youngest representative of her country in the history of the Olympic Games, won bronze in the final race. Fifteen-year-old Misugu Okamot, the winner of the qualification and the reigning world champion, was in fourth place without a medal in fourth place.

The youngest professional skateboarder in the world, Brown, did not win the first two final races and secured the medal only at the last minute. “I’m very happy. Josozumi followed the triumphs of Jute Horigome and Momiji Nishiy, who dominated Ariake Urban Sports Park in the street discipline last week. In it, skateboarders ride on “urban” obstacles, such as railings or stairs, while performing tricks on ramps in the park.

In the qualification and the eight-member final of the park, the competitors complete three rides of 45 seconds each, with the best result calculated. On Thursday, the men will fight for the final set of medals.
