That was what I was most afraid of. I told myself that if he fell, I would have to jump into the water behind him. But hunting a two-meter giant out of the water is not easy. That was the worst moment. He just lay there, breathing and saying it hurt to live.

Will it help at such a time that you are siblings and have known each other all your life?
Certainly. I know how to deal with him. He smiled for the first time after the race when he called his family. They were all watching TV at home with their grandmother and grandfather. I already knew it would be good. But we just talked. He is very smart, he takes things mentally. We discussed the situation. He knew he had done all he could. He communicated a lot with me, with my dad, who is a former kayaker, and also with my girlfriend, also a former kayaker.
All the fans saw that he was totally squeezed physically. Is it even possible for the body to recover in less than twenty-four hours?
I ran after him right from the stands. He was with a rescue member who was leading him toward the pier, where the wind had blown him. About eight Japanese helped him off the ship. He was lying on the pier, there were a lot of volunteers who gave him water. Then there was a beautiful gesture from the German Schopf, who received ice from the coach. But when he saw Pep, he decided that the ice needed much more. He came to him, knelt over him and held the ice to his forehead. It was a terribly beautiful gesture of fair play and the Olympic spirit. I didn’t care if my brother was golden or fifth, I just wanted him to be fine. Turns out it’s not just about sports. Fortunately, Pepa got away with it. When he went to doping control, I was with him and there was no need to talk. Sometimes it’s just silent, but the main thing is to have someone close to you who cares about you and likes you no matter what happens.
