Logitech Launches Mac Version of MX Keys

Logitech is launching a Mac version of its MX Keys keyboard and a very slight revision of its MX Master 3 mouse to accompany it. Last fall, the manufacturer of accessories proposed the “MX Keys (for Mac and PC)”, an extended wireless keyboard of very good invoice but whose keys were filled with pictograms for macOS, Windows and iOS.

So much the better for those who work in a heterogeneous environment since the MX Keys is equipped with three keys allowing to instantly connect it to as many devices (a Mac, a PC and an iPad / iPhone, for example). But too bad for those who only live in the Apple world and don’t care about this visual glut. They could also regret that the keys are not identical to those of an Apple keyboard (at the level of the numeric keypad in particular).

This new version, the ” MX Keys for Mac “, Clears these reviews and offers another alternative to the extended keyboard from Apple, and cheaper 40 €.

MX Keys for Mac and Apple extended keyboard, € 109 vs. € 149

The row of function / multimedia keys is lower at Logitech, but for the others there is assimilation. The numeric keypad, with its operating keys in particular, is modeled on that of Apple. Note that this keyboard has an eject key, it provides several actions – on macOS as on iOS – when used in combination with other keys (standby, display of the virtual keyboard, etc. ).

This MX Keys is backlit and runs on battery (5 months of autonomy without backlight or 10 days with, according to Logitech). We will charge it with the supplied USB-C / USB-C cable. This wired connection is only used for power, for the actual connection it will be in Bluetooth or with the USB-A dongle “Unifying”. If your Mac is old, this small accessory remains essential, this is the case for example with my iMac mid-2011 whose generation of Bluetooth is too old to use that of the keyboard. This dongle is also required when you have enabled FileVault encryption Mac storage media, so you can enter your session password.

For the rest, this Mac version is strictly identical to the previous model. Logitech told us about an improvement with Bluetooth connections when a lot of wireless devices are around you, but this software change is also offered to the other model.

The MX Keys is a solid, fairly heavy keyboard (810 grams against 390 for the Apple range), with concave keys and a much less dry typing feel than on the Apple. We clearly feel a spring effect and the sound of the strike is well contained. Compared to the test published last year, we will simply add that the backlight could be improved so that the light is less visible around the keys (read Logitech MX Keys keyboard test for Mac and PC).

The price of the Mac version is identical to that of the Mac / PC keyboard, ie € 109 and its marketing is scheduled from July 12.

With this keyboard, Logitech releases a Mac version of its excellent MX Master 3 mouse (for right-handers only). Here too we can reread last year’s test, because the difference relates to the color (more space gray and black than light gray, to go with the tones of keyboards and machines of Apple) and on the absence of the dongle “Unifying” in the box.

The connection will be exclusively via Bluetooth. One thing less in the box and yet the price does not move: 109 €. The release is also scheduled for July 12.
