Logistics Entrepreneur Claims Not To Be Involved In Vaccine Distribution

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Logistics Association Indonesia (ALI) stated that it was not involved in the logistics or distribution process corona vaccine from the beginning, from the Sinovac brand to Moderna which required a cold chain to minus 20 degrees Celsius.

ALI chief Mahendra Rianto mentioned that critical public goods such as the Covid-19 vaccine should not be handed over to the private sector.

The aim is not to cause jealousy between private service companies and avoid commercialization of vaccinations.

After all, according to him, SOEs have an adequate supply chain. On the other hand, SOEs also have a public service obligation (PSO) function that is carried out, so that he considers the right task to be given to state-owned companies.

Mahendra said that private entrepreneurs were only involved in making logistics protocols. However, the distribution is given to SOEs.

“We are not involved and it is better because this is a critical item, it must be handled by SOEs in the supply chain, delivery, and distribution to the vaccination site so that it is controlled and avoids business motives,” he told CNNIndonesia.com, Saturday (17/7).

ALI’s Board of Trustees Zaldy Ilham Masita assessed that with Indonesia’s cold chain infrastructure facilities, vaccines that require a cooling chain of up to minus 70 Celsius can only be distributed in big cities such as Greater Jakarta, Surabaya and big cities that have advanced facilities.

Although Moderna and Pfizer have prepared storage packaging according to the required temperature, the storage durability is not long.

So he suggested that the vaccine be injected less than 1 month from arriving in Indonesia to reduce the risk of vaccine damage due to inadequate storage.

Despite having a big homework to prepare various cooling chains for 7 types of vaccines in Indonesia, Zaldy believes the Ministry of Health has prepared the logistics, storage, and distribution of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines when they get the grant.

“Modern should be distributed in the capital city only,” he said.

As is known, the government has decided to use seven different brands of Covid-19 vaccines in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, namely Sinopharm, AstraZaneca, Pfizer, Moderna, Novavax, Merah Putih, and Sinovac.

The seven vaccines require seven different cooling temperatures. For example, Sinovac only requires a cooling temperature of 2-8 degrees Celsius, while Pfizer requires cooling of minus 70 degrees Celsius.
