lockdown in Italy is far too lax

Chinese Red Cross Vice President Sun Shuopeng believes that Italy is not taking enough measures to tackle new coronavirus. That’s what he said at a press conference in Milan. Sun called the lockdown measures in the city “very lax”.

“Public transportation is still going on, people are still moving, they are gathering in hotels and they are not wearing face masks,” said Sun. “I don’t understand what is driving those people. We really need to stop all common economic activities and human interactions. ”

More people have died of Covid-19 in Italy than in China. After the Wuhan authorities initially failed to act vigorously, the Chinese government later took far-reaching measures to stem the spread of the virus. Strict travel and quarantine measures were put in place in a large area around the epicenter of the outbreak. As of late January, there was a strict lockdown for more than 50 million people.

Chinese policy, which received praise from the World Health Organization WHO, has already borne fruit. Earlier this week, the country reached the point where all new infections came from people who came from abroad. Two weeks ago, the number of new infections in the Netherlands was already higher than in China.
