Local residents not happy with the arrival of Boxtelse car dealership: ‘Sales of used cars do not fit in rural areas’ | bailiwick

BOXTEL – Local residents are against the expansion of the car trade in Classic Park on the Koppenhoefstraat in Boxtel. They don’t think a company like this fits in the outlying area. The residents have the Nature Working Group Liempde on their side.

The Boxtel city council wants to give the owner of the Classic Park car museum temporary permission to sell not only ‘old-timers’, but also ‘normal’ second-hand cars and even bicycles. This should be done in collaboration with Autobedrijf Van den Udenhout.

Against the sore leg

That intention is against the sore leg of both local residents and the Nature Working Group Liempde. In letters to the municipal council, residents of Onrooi and Kasteren as well as the board of the nature working group make this clear. The biggest objection is that such a business activity would not fit in the outlying area.

It is striking that the town hall and also the company management have indicated that the plans have been discussed, but that these discussions have apparently been missed by local residents and the nature working group. “We are not aware of anything,” the residents said in their letter. And Natuurwerkgroep Liempde: “Our members have in any case not noticed anything of an environmental dialogue.”

Boxtel should move car sales to an industrial area

Local residents in a letter to the municipality

The neighborhood does not like the sale of used cars. “Such a company does not belong in an environment adjacent to nature reserves such as De Geelders and the Dommeldal. On the contrary, the municipality should ban these activities from the countryside and move them to the industrial area. As prescribed by its own policy.” Residents also fear the increase in traffic. “It will become more dangerous for recreational bicycle traffic and school children in our neighborhood.”

Contrary to own rules

The Nature Working Group Liempde also draws the attention of the municipal authorities to its own rules, which would be in conflict with authorizing the car trade in Classic Park. “The municipal rules do not allow the establishment of a large-scale car company in the outlying area,” according to the working group. Because there are currently dozens of cars at the building and a large illuminated advertising has also been installed, it seems that the business activities have already been initiated, the working group writes. “Legalization by temporarily granting permission is a form of bad governance,” says the Nature Working Group Liempde in the letter.

The temporary period of five years of the permit also does not reassure the objectors. “We are afraid that a temporary permit for such a long period of time will automatically turn into a permanent one,” said local residents. Earlier, the SP council party also announced that it was not happy with the development.
