That the llamas can have one of the solutions to counter the spread of the coronavirus is surprising. But this is a very serious scientific hypothesis. In a study published on July 13 in the magazine Nature, British researchers indicate that they have produced two antibodies, derived from the llamas’ body, capable of stopping the progression of the virus in patients.
The interest shown by research in these camelids does not come from nowhere. Their immune system has a rare characteristic. They are among the few species to produce small antibodies with a simple structure. The latter allows them to be easily isolated and modified in the laboratory.
