Living room duel Van Barneveld versus Taylor gets bitter aftertaste | Darts

sport">What was that again? Last Thursday, Van Barneveld and Taylor both competed against each other in their own familiar environment. Target Darts (a seller of dart equipment) had organized the game between the two former world champions, but because so much attention was paid to the hit, betting agency Paddy Power took over the organization of the game.

£ 1000 per 180’er

sport">Van Barneveld had designated Haaglanden Food Bank as a charity, while Taylor played for the National Health Service in Great Britain (NHS). Paddy Power, the new organizer of the game, offered 1000 British pounds for every 180’er thrown at electronic darts during the match. Van Barneveld won the game 7-6 in legs and threw five maximum scores. Taylor scored no less than ten 180s.

sport">There it eventually went wrong. Whereas Van Barneveld camp assumed Barney was throwing for his charity, Paddy Power decided to donate the entire proceeds of 15,000 British pounds to the NHS. “We were not informed about that,” said Van Bodegom. “All this time, Raymond has been under the assumption that he simply played for the Food Bank. We discussed this in advance and the organization would arrange everything. Raymond and I did not know that there was an agreement that all the money would go to the NHS. ”

Goodwill

sport">Despite this, Van Bodegom came under considerable scolding from Hendrik Beelen, the chairman of the Haaglanden Food Bank. “My image is that they have abused the Food Bank goodwill to grow, ”Beelen says opposite Broadcaster West. “Ridiculous,” says Van Bodegom. “I am reproached by that mister that Raymond would like to earn money over the back of the Food Bank. He was assuming that he would receive 17,000 euros and asked me on Friday evening, so less than 24 hours after the match, angered why the money was not yet in the Food Bank’s account that morning. ”

sport">Van Bodegom is astonished to say the least. “When Raymond announced he was going to play for the Food Bank, we never received a call with an enthusiastic response on his part. Of course there is sympathy for his disappointment, but I tried to explain to him that there was miscommunication. But there was no conversation to be had. ”

Auction shirt and board

sport">Van Bodegom then contacted Target Darts to see how the Food Bank could still participate in the success of the event. “We wanted to see if we could bring out special flights with the Food Bank logo on them, and auction Raymond’s shirt and sign. But when Target Darts contacted the chairman of the Food Bank about that, they didn’t even want to listen. I was told the receiver was thrown on the hook. ”

sport">Of course, Van Barneveld still wants to see if the Food Bank can have something left over from the prestigious duel. “Because the people Raymond wanted to play for, they are now failing,” says Van Bodegom. “But we will let this sink in for a short while, and then go together with René Froger (ambassador of the Food Banks of the Netherlands, ed.) To see if we can make it bigger than just Haaglanden, and possibly to mean something for the whole of the Netherlands. Because of this fantastic action there must of course be something that way. ”
