Many Asian countries have made headlines of young job seekers being solicited on social media for good jobs and then detained and forced to work illegally after passing through Cambodia. A human trafficking organization was involved and the actual damage situation became clear.
◆ Well-paid work abroad. Young people deceived
Many of the traffickers are linked to well-known criminal networks and use social media to provide young Asians with well-paid jobs and housing in countries such as Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. When young people arrive, they confiscate their passports and sell them to other groups or force them to work in offices that commit telephone and online fraud. The perpetrators of these human trafficking groups are said to be Taiwanese, Chinese, Thai, Cambodian and others. (guardian card)
The biggest victims are said to be Vietnamese and Taiwanese. About 5,000 Taiwanese citizens did not return after traveling to Cambodia, according to Taiwanese authorities. Taiwanese police said they had confirmed at least 370 people in custody, but said the actual death toll could be higher. (same)
