Travel wave reaches peak: risk of traffic jams in Hamburg and near Lübeck

Another bottleneck is a construction site on the A1 north of Lübeck. Between the Pansdorf and Neustadt iH-Mitte junctions, there are two lanes for traffic heading towards Fehmarn, but only one lane heading towards Lübeck.

“The north is completely free, the wave of travel is reaching its peak,” said Hieff. The ADAC assumes that the traffic volume will be as high as before the corona pandemic or even higher. All travel restrictions have been lifted. And because there are also problems with air traffic and long-distance trains, the car remains the most popular means of transport.

Before the junction of the A23 at the Hamburg-Nordwest triangle in the direction of Heide, ADAC and Autobahn GmbH Nord do not expect any major problems. Traffic is single-lane through a construction site between Hamburg-Eidelstedt and Halstenbek/Krupunder (Pinneberg district). However, the highway is mainly used by commuters and less by vacationers, it said. Traffic jams are possible on the A24 Hamburg-Berlin, said Hieff.
