Liverpool. Liverpool FC is running out of staff. After coach Jürgen Klopp, his assistant and representative Pep Lijnders has now also tested positive for the corona virus, the club announced and canceled the planned press conference before the planned league cup game at Arsenal FC.
The 38-year-old Lijnders should stand on the sidelines at the cup match in London, as he did at the weekend away game against Chelsea (2-2), because Klopp is still isolating himself after a positive test result in the previous week. After the “suspected positive” test the day before, Lijnders has now also gone into isolation, it said.
The Dutchman was one of numerous suspected corona cases among players and employees who tested positive the day before, the Reds said. Therefore the training was canceled. The training center was also closed for the time being due to the rapid increase in suspected cases.
Before Lijnders’ test result, Liverpool FC requested the EFL, which is responsible for the cup, to postpone the league cup semi-finals, which was confirmed on Wednesday. The match scheduled for January 6th will now be played on January 20th. The actual second leg on January 13th in Anfield will be the first leg.
