Liverpool Victorious in Challenging Conditions: Secures Quarter-Final Spot in League Cup

Liverpool took a solid win in very difficult playing conditions at the Vitality Stadium, after a goal from Cody Gakpo and a brace from Darwin Nunez.

This means that the Reds will play in the quarter-finals of the league cup, and the opponent was ready after Manchester United – Newcastle had finished at Old Trafford.

Teams such as Manchester City, Brentford, Brighton, Tottenham and Aston Villa were already out before the fourth round, and tonight Manchester United and Arsenal also smoked. Several good teams have thus been eliminated, which could provide an easier path to Wembley and a new league cup final.

There were a couple of teams outside the Premier League in tonight’s bowl, but it ended with West Ham at Anfield. A usable draw, with good opportunities to advance to the semi-finals.

This is how the quarter-finals in the league cup are played

In the remaining matches, it ended with two Premier League matches, and one with two teams outside the best company. Everton will be visited by Fulham at Goodison Park, and if both Liverpool teams progress, it would have been fun to have two games between the city neighbours.

League One side Port Vale have a good chance of making it all the way to the semi-finals of the League Cup this season. A home game against Middlesbrough is the only obstacle left before that feat is completed.

Chelsea and Newcastle, the two supposedly best teams apart from Liverpool, will play for a semi-final place at Stamford Bridge.

The quarter-finals:

Everton – Fulham

Chelsea – Newcastle

Port Vale – Middlesbrough

Liverpool – West Ham

The matches will be played on 19 and 20 December, a few days before Arsenal await in the Premier League on Christmas Eve. The Gunners lost 1-3 against West Ham tonight, and will have a week’s recharge before the game at Anfield.
