Bola.net – Former attacker Liverpool, Michael Owen claimed to be disappointed with failure Liverpool recruiting Timo Werner. Owen rate the Reds failed to get the striker because they prefer to be loyal to Divock Origi.

Werner’s name is actually quite often associated with Liverpool. RB Leipzig striker was even reported to be the main prey of the Reds this summer.

But the Merseyside team are still hesitant to get the German national team striker. As a result the rival, Chelsea managed to overtake Liverpool to secure the services of the striker.

Owen himself admitted annoyed with Liverpool’s failure to transfer Werner. “Are Origi and Takumi Minamino going to be at Liverpool next season? I think so, because Origi has just signed a new contract and Minamino has also just joined,” Owen told Premier League Production.

Is it worth it?

Owen personally claimed not to agree with the extension of the Origi contract. He considered the striker was not good enough to be Roberto Firmino’s competitor in the Reds attack line.

“Both [Minamino dan Origi] it certainly is at the club next season, but that doesn’t mean they deserve to be there. Origi signed a long-term contract at Liverpool, and Liverpool seem to be very loyal to him, “

“He has done a good thing in the Champions League, and suddenly just because of that he got a new contract. I think that step was taken so that they don’t have to spend a lot of money to bring in a upholstery striker.”

Big mistake

Owen felt that Werner had better quality than Origi. As a result Liverpool should try to secure the striker.

“Timo Werner is a player who is often associated with Liverpool, but in fact he moved to Chelsea. Even though I feel he is a player that is needed by Liverpool.”

“They [LIverpool] give Origi a long-term contract so they don’t seem to need a new striker. “I’m not sure they don’t need a better attacker,” he said.
