China advises citizens not to go to risk areas abroad. The Chinese should stay away from badly hit countries in Europe, from Iran and the United States.

Visit refused

All Limburg hospitals with the exception of the university hospital in Maastricht (MUMC) refuse visitors. This is to prevent further spread of the new coronavirus.

The Laurentius hospital in Roermond closed its doors on Tuesday after the hospitals in Weert, Venray, Venlo, Sittard and Heerlen had already closed on Monday. Some hospitals make exceptions for visiting sick children. All hospitals allow visits to terminal patients under certain conditions.

All care and all operations that can be postponed are shifted in the hospitals to later. This also to reduce the chance of contamination.

Iran: 85,000 prisoners released

Iran has temporarily released 85,000 prisoners, including political prisoners, because of the corona virus. According to the spokesman, extra measures are being taken in prisons to prevent the spread of the virus.

A UN special rapporteur asked the Iranian government last week to release political prisoners because the prisons are overcrowded and diseases are prevalent. Iran has been severely affected by the virus and has been struggling with weak health care for years, suffering from US sanctions against Iran.

Nearly 5.4 million people watched Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s live broadcast television speech on Monday evening. He addressed the people about the spread of the coronavirus and the necessary measures against it.

#applausvoordezorg

The action #applausvoordezorg quickly circulates on the Dutch social media. The idea behind it is to applaud en masse in the garden, from the window or from the balcony on Tuesday at 8 p.m. for people who work in healthcare and are extra busy due to the new corona virus. Such actions were previously held in Italy and Spain.

An event has been created on Facebook. There, approximately 10,000 people have indicated that they are interested in the action. The idea is to fold for three minutes and to spread as much image as possible via social media.

Polish ministers

Polish ministers attending the latest cabinet meeting have been tested for the corona virus. This happened after the Minister of the Environment was found to be infected.

“The results should be announced today,” the chief of staff to the prime minister said on the radio. “All these people are still in quarantine.”

Environment minister Michal Wos decided to get tested according to news agency PAP after he had contact with an infected employee of the Polish State Forest Service. The minister would not be seriously ill.

South Korea

In South Korea, another 84 people have been infected in the past 24 hours, and the total comes to 8,320. This is the third day in a row that the number of new cases of infection has remained below 100. On February 29, the country peaked at 909.

President Moon Jae-in says he is increasingly confident that South Korea will overcome the corona virus as the number of new infections falls. Still, South Korea remains cautious as a large contamination area is emerging around the capital, Seoul.

“We are at war”

In the fight against the spread of the coronavirus, France strongly restricts the freedom of movement of its citizens. People are only allowed to leave their homes from Tuesday noon to shop, go to the doctor, or work, President Emmanuel Macron said in a TV speech. “We are at war,” he said.

Macron said people should stay at home and only go out for essential activities. He said anyone who ignored the restrictions would be punished. The measure applies for fifteen days.

The French government is allocating EUR 45 billion to provide additional support to companies and workers affected by the effects of the new corona virus.

The country has 6,633 infections. 148 patients have already succumbed.

Trump

US President Trump has further tightened measures against the further spread of the coronavirus. He said Americans should avoid groups of more than ten people and stop eating out in restaurants and bars.

Trump insisted on “social distance” behavior, which many Americans and their employers are already doing. In addition, several states have already ordered the closure of schools and restaurants. According to Trump, a national curfew is not yet on the agenda.

Corona escapes

Hundreds of prisoners escaped Monday from various prisons in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo. They broke out after authorities decided to suspend their leave arrangements for Tuesday to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

Curacao

Curaçao has implemented a series of measures to prevent the spread of the virus. They are drastic measures. For example, everyone must adhere to social isolation and all planned activities will be canceled. Celebration of the popular harvest festival (Seú) has been postponed later this month.

Up to ten people are allowed at funerals. Where necessary, people should work from home as much as possible. Restaurants should limit themselves to selling takeaway food. All cafes on the island are closed.

Similar measures are also being taken on the other islands of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.

Send corona patients

Mexico has dismissed the accusation that the country would have allowed about 12 people with the coronavirus to board a plane to El Salvador. Checks by medical personnel would show that nobody on the plane would be infected.

The accusation comes from the Salvadoran President Bukele. He previously shut down air travel to the capital San Salvador after he made his allegations via Twitter and called the Mexican authorities “irresponsible.” The head of state made his allegation without providing evidence.
