LIVE | Number of corona cases is above 400,000 | Abroad

The number of corona cases in the Netherlands will rise to over 400,000 on Saturday. Until Friday, the virus was diagnosed in 397,730 Dutch people.

The first positive test was more than eight months ago, on February 27. A man from Loon op Zand in Brabant had been admitted to a hospital in neighboring Tilburg. On September 23, day 210 of the outbreak, the 100,000th corona case was reported. Three weeks and a day later, on October 15, the number of corona cases topped 200,000. This was Day 232 of the outbreak. A week and a half later, on October 26 (day 243), the threshold of 300,000 cases was passed. Nearly two weeks later, the 400,000th positive test is being processed on day 255 of the outbreak.

The actual number of patients will be considerably higher than 400,000. In the early days of the outbreak, not everyone was tested, causing an unknown number of people to die or cured without ever having been proven to have the virus. In recent weeks it has been difficult to make an appointment for a corona test.

Amsterdam has by far the most corona cases in the country. In the capital, 32,779 inhabitants have been tested positive. In Rotterdam the counter is at 27,597 confirmed infections and in The Hague at 18,704. In the municipality of Utrecht, 11,515 cases have come to light in recent months. This is followed by Tilburg (5285), Eindhoven (4793), Breda (4652), Almere (4607), Zaanstad (4197) and Nijmegen (4173). There are now 93 municipalities with more than a thousand cases. At the beginning of September, at the foot of the second wave, there were six of them.

The corona virus has now surfaced in every municipality. Schiermonnikoog remained corona-free for the longest time. The ten municipalities with the least infections are Pekela (93), Noord-Beveland and Vaals (83 each), Terschelling (66), Appingedam (65), Loppersum (60), Ameland (46), Vlieland (17), Rozendaal ( 12) and Schiermonnikoog (4).

Since the outbreak began, 15,721 corona patients have been hospitalized. 7887 Dutch people are known to have died of the virus, but the actual death toll is probably higher.
