LIVE | Corona protest: Leeuwarden catering industry will remain open tonight | Inland

14.48 – Corona protest: Leeuwarden catering industry will remain open tonight

At least forty catering establishments will remain open at eight o’clock tonight. They do this in protest against the new corona measures.

On Saturday morning, entrepreneurs gathered to decide what to do. In the end, it was decided to remain open tonight. In protest against the new corona measures announced yesterday, which will force the catering industry to close at 8 p.m. for the next three weeks.

The municipality of Leeuwarden is not happy with the action, reports Ton Eijer, chairman of the Leeuwarden department of Koninklijke Horeca Nederland. Eijer could not say exactly how many cases remain open. “The number continues to grow.”

13.30 – Also busy on Saturday at call center for corona test appointment

It remains busy at the national call center for making an appointment for a corona test. This is reported by GGD GHOR, the umbrella organization of GGDs.

On Friday, 83,817 new test agreements were made and more than 83,000 tests were administered. Until 11 a.m. Saturday morning, 55,000 people have already tried to call the national telephone number 0800-1202. If you don’t get an answer, you will be asked to try again later. The line can be called every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The telephones in the call center have also been red hot in recent days. For example, more than 100,000 test appointments were made on Monday and more than 77,000 tests were administered, according to GGD GHOR.

People cannot go to the GGD for a corona test for access to, for example, a sports competition or cultural event. This is done via the Testing for Access website.

11.00 – Adjusted Sinterklaas entrances in the country, protest at the entrance in Breda

The national arrival of Sinterklaas can only be followed on TV this year. He arrived in the Netherlands on Friday. With a parade, mayors and children greet the saintly man and his helpers at the Grote Pietenhuis. There are also entrances of Saints in other places. In Breda Kick Out Zwarte Piet is protesting against the presence of Gray Petes.

Last year there was no national entry due to the corona measures and there was also a parade at the Grote Pietenhuis in Soestdijk Palace in Baarn.

Many local Sinterklaas committees have adjusted the arrival due to the many corona infections. For example, there are private events for which adults need a corona ticket, such as in the port of Scheveningen and on Willemsplein in Rotterdam. Some places have canceled the entry, such as Utrecht, Roermond and Volendam.

Although the sooty wipe has now been introduced in many places, there is also protest this year. For example, Kick Out Zwarte Piet will demonstrate on Saturday at 10:00 in Breda near Park Valkenberg, where there is a Sinterklaas party with Gray Petes. The action group finds this racist and a “fake solution.” However, the organization of the entry sticks to the color gray in order to be unrecognizable.

In Alkmaar, where only soot wipes can be seen this year for the first time, Pegida demonstrates Saturday afternoon at the entry before Zwarte Piet. The organization also plans to make itself heard in Amsterdam on Sunday when Saint Nicholas arrives.

07.50 – More than 5.4 million viewers for corona press conference

More than 5.4 million Dutch people watched the press conference on the latest corona measures on Friday evening. The broadcast was therefore viewed slightly better than that of November 2, reports Stichting KijkOnderzoek (SKO). It attracted about five million viewers.

The press conference of outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte and outgoing corona minister Hugo de Jonge was broadcast live as usual on NPO 1, RTL 4 and SBS6. According to SKO, most watched NPO 1 (3,586,000). 1,469,000 people watched the broadcast on RTL 4 and 361,000 viewers tuned in on SBS6.

The corona press conference on NPO1 was the most watched program of the day, followed by The Masked Singer on RTL4. 2.1 million people watched it.

07.00 – Less than half of visitors are asked for ID with corona pass

The control of the corona admission ticket leaves much to be desired, writes outgoing corona minister Hugo de Jonge in a letter to the House of Representatives. For example, a poll shows that less than half of visitors to cinemas, for example, are asked for ID when they show their corona pass. On average, seven out of ten visitors are asked for an admission ticket.

It is also necessary to check the ID if someone shows a corona pass. Fraud is easier without identification. There is now a lively trade in fake QR codes, which often go undetected without ID checks. The government is in consultation with sector organizations about how the control can be improved.

The cabinet wants the corona admission ticket (CTB) to play a more important role in combating infections in the near future. The CTB will be extended to more sectors and employers should also be allowed to ask their employees about it. The Senate and the House of Representatives must first agree to this.
