“Little boy triggers search operation at Vienna marathon with a surprising twist”

A young spectator at the Vienna City Marathon wanted to be right in the middle of it instead of just being there and thus triggered a search operation.

As the police announced today, the seven-year-old was standing with his father on the edge of the running track yesterday. Suddenly the boy broke free and ran with a group of runners, they said.

After the father had informed the police, an officer was able to find the athletic runaway among the almost 40,000 marathon participants after about 40 minutes. By then the boy had already covered about seven kilometers. According to the police, he already has concrete plans for the City Marathon 2024: “According to his own statements, he would like to take part in the children’s run next year,” it said.
