Lithuanian President says NATO is losing balance in the region

To maintain balance, Gitanas Nauseda urged NATO to concentrate more forces near Russian borders

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda hopes that the North Atlantic Alliance will concentrate its troops on the eastern front and strengthen its military potential in general, informs agency Deutsche Welle.

He voiced his vision of the problem in Guta in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, where a joint press conference of the heads of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania took place.

“Strengthening the military potential is good, but we must have an algorithm of what to do if there is scenario A, scenario B, scenario C,” said Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.

The Lithuanian President also noted that the military integration of Russia and Belarus is already an indisputable fact that has been going on for a long time. This changes the security situation for the Baltic states and NATO is obliged to react to this first.

“If the balance is now being lost, there must be some reaction from the other side, so that this balance is restored. This concerns the European Union and NATO,” the president emphasized.

President Nauseda noted that the security of Ukraine and the Baltic is interconnected. In his opinion, it is not worth discussing the Ukrainian, Polish or Lithuanian situation separately.

“And for this to be a discussion of regional security. And this should be a broad reaction at the regional level,” summed up the President of Lithuania.

Information about Russian troops on the borders of Ukraine began to appear in Western media in October. In mid-November, Zelensky stated about 100 thousand Russian troops near the borders of Ukraine. Experts predicted the Russian invasion in January 2022, but then appeared versions of an earlier intervention. The West stated that will introduce new sanctions against Russia if it tries to send troops to Ukraine.

Previously Focus reported that Lithuania is ready to hand over to Ukraine a lethal weapon.

Also Focus talked about Lithuania introduced state of emergency due to migrants from Belarus.
