Lithuania reacts to Kremlin threats of NATO expansion – details – World – tsn.ua

Lithuania stressed that Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave on the Baltic Sea is surrounded on both sides by NATO members.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte commented on Moscow’s nuclear threats to a possible NATO expansion. According to her, the Kremlin said “nothing new.”

About it informs Reuters.

“What Russia is threatening is nothing new. Kaliningrad has been a very militarized zone for many years, and it is located in the Baltic region,” Simonyte said.

She stressed that Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave on the Baltic Sea is surrounded on both sides by NATO members, namely Lithuania and Poland.

Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas, in turn, also said that despite the current security situation, Russia already keeps weapons 100 km from the border with Lithuania. Therefore, these threats look “strange”.

“Nuclear weapons have always been stored in Kaliningrad… The international community, the countries of the region are well aware of this… They use it as a threat,” the minister added.

Recall that Medvedev threatened Sweden and Finland consequences of joining NATO. If Russia joins, there will be more officially registered opponents, Medvedev says.
