Voters can find the submitted lists of candidates, pre-election programs and information about candidates on the website of the Central Election Commission (CEC) – https://rd2020.cvk.lv, and during election week – also at polling stations.

The lists of candidates for the Riga City Council elections were submitted by Attīstība / Par !, “PROGRESSIVE”, the New Conservative Party, the Party “Honor to Serve Riga”, the “Social Democratic Party” of Harmony, the National Union “All for Latvia!” – “Fatherland and Freedom / LNNK”, Latvia Union of Regions, New UNITY, Union of Greens and Farmers, Political Party “Alternative”, Party “United Latvia”, “Latvian Russian Union”, “Center Party”, Action Party, National Union JUSTICE, New Harmony and Political Party “KPV LV” .

Among the nominated candidates for deputies, more than two thirds or 70.3% are men and 29.7% are women. The youngest candidate is 18 years old and the oldest is 90 years old. The average age of candidates is 45.6 years. The majority or 76.7% of the applied candidates have higher education.

The majority or 70.2% of candidates for deputies have indicated that their declared place of residence is Riga, 19.9% ​​work in the capital, 3.3% of candidates own property in Riga. Some candidates have indicated compliance with several features – 1.4% live and own property in Riga, 1.9% live and work in Riga, 1.9% live, work and own property in this municipality, while 1.3% work in Riga and own this property. property.

Submission of lists of candidates for the Riga City Council elections took place from 14 to 20 July. Lists of candidates for deputies for the Riga City Council elections could be submitted by registered political parties, registered associations of registered political parties, as well as two or more registered political parties that have not joined a registered association of political parties.

Citizens of Latvia or other European Union Member States who have reached the age of at least 18 on the day of elections and are registered in the Latvian Register of Voters and who are not subject to the restrictions on candidacy prescribed by law have the right to participate in local elections as candidates for deputies.

In order to stand for election to the Riga City Council, a candidate must meet at least one of the following conditions on the day of submitting the list of candidates: – must have a registered residence in Riga without interruption for the last 10 months, have been employed or self-employed in Riga for at least the last four months; real estate.

The lists of candidates for deputies in the Riga City Council elections will not have a number, but the order in which the marks in the polling stations (whose list mark will be on the surface) will be arranged will be determined by lot.

  • Elections will also have the opportunity to apply for voting at their location if it is not possible to get to the polling station due to their health condition, and the voter will be in the territory of Riga during the elections. Voters who do not have their own face shield will be issued a disposable face mask at the polling station.
