Listeriosis: Another Blackburn Cheese Cheese Recalled

Another Blackburn cheese product, Le Mont-Jacob, is being recalled due to the possible presence of the bacteria causing listeriosis in the production plant.

The semi-soft cheese was sold in large wheels to the shops. It was then sliced and repackaged at the counter before being purchased by consumers. Some people could therefore have this cheese in their refrigerator without knowing it.

If in doubt, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) invites people to contact their retailer.

If you have a piece of Mont-Jacob, it must be thrown away or brought back to the store, even if it looks normal.

Because as the CFIA reminds us, a product infected with the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria may seem completely normal at first glance and does not necessarily emit a singular odor. However, it can make you very sick.

However, it should be noted that no case of listeriosis has been reported for the moment in connection with the consumption of this product, said the CFIA, which is continuing its investigation after the cheese factory had itself initiated the recall procedure.

Last week, Fromagerie Blackburn, located in Saguenay, asked for the recall of another of its products, Le Napoléon, for the same reasons. Symptoms of listeriosis are vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle pain, severe headache, and stiff neck. A pregnant woman who has it can give the disease to her baby.

Listeriosis can be fatal in the most severe cases.

People who have been sick after eating a piece of this cheese are advised to contact their doctor.
