List the list of three to choose a magistrate of the Constitutional Court – Cortes – Justicia


On the night of this Wednesday the Council of State finished integrating the list of candidates among which the Senate must elect the replacement of the magistrate of the Constitutional Court Luis Guillermo Guerrero, whose term ends on September 4.

Of the 102 people initially enrolled, the Council of State elected Jorge Enrique Ibáñez Najar, Natalia Ángel Cabo and Marino Henao Ospina like the ternados to occupy the office in the high constitutional court.

Ángel, who in addition to constitutional experience has worked on issues of rights of people with disabilities, as well as the right to free development of personality, had already been completed in 2017 to replace the suspended magistrate Jorge Pretelt, but on that occasion the one chosen for the Constitutional Court was the magistrate today Cristina Pardo.

Regarding her appointment in the shortlist, Ángel published a message saying: “It is an honor that the Council of State has included me in the shortlist as a candidate for a magistrate of the Constitutional Court. I am very grateful to those who supported me in this process. Today I’m very happy!”.

For his part, Jorge Enrique Ibáñez is a lawyer, professor of constitutional law and international arbitrator of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce. Ibáñez was one of the most famous among the applicants. He is a doctor and postdoctor in law, advised the National Constituent Assembly in 1991, has been a joint judge of the Constitutional Court and the Council of State.

For his part, Henao has been an assistant attorney general as well as an auxiliary magistrate of the Constitutional Court and the Council of State.

For several years he has been working as an independent consultant in constitutional and administrative law.

This shortlist, which finished choosing around 11 p.m. the full hall of the Council of State, the Senate will be sent and the upper house must select a new magistrate for the Constitutional Court this semester.

The high Constitutional Court, the closing court on this matter, is made up of a total of 9 magistrates.
