Lindsey Graham: – – Ready to move on

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has long been one of President Donald Trump’s closest allies.

Despite Joe Biden securing 306 votes against Donald Trump’s 232 in the November presidential election, Trump has refused to acknowledge the election defeat.

Graham was one of those who supported Trump’s allegations of electoral fraud, although no evidence was presented.

However, it turned around during the second Supreme Court case against Trump after the attack on Congress. Then Graham held a burning post, where he put his foot down, and said that “enough was enough.”

– Trump and I have had quite a journey. I hate that it has to end like this, Graham said at the time.

– The answer is no

On Monday this week, Graham reiterated that he accepts the election result.

– I accept the election result. 2020 is over for me, and I am ready to march on, and hopefully take back the House and Senate in 2022, Graham told reporters in South Carolina on Monday according to The Hill.

Earlier this month, however, he pointed out that the Republican Party “can not move forward without Trump as a key figure.”

– I just want to say to my Republican colleagues; Can we move on without President Trump? The answer is no, Graham told Fox News USA Today.

The statement came just days before Trump critic Liz Cheney was ousted the top job in the Republican Party.

– I have always liked Liz Cheney, but she has decided that the Republican Party can not grow with President Trump. I have decided that we can not grow without him, Graham continued.

– Bad things happened

Graham has also supported any changes to the Election Act ahead of the Interim Election in 2022.

Most recently yesterday, he urged Trump and other Republicans to focus on the upcoming midterm elections.

Ahead of the by-elections, which will be held in November 2022, the Democratic Party has control over the House of Representatives, while the Senate is divided 50-50. By next year, all seats in the House of Representatives, as well as 34 out of 100 seats in the Senate, will be up for election.

– I think that there are many people who follow that bad things happened during the election. But I think President Trump and the Republican Party need to focus on election reform and the upcoming election, Graham added to reporters.

Since Trump was banned from social media, it has been largely silent from the ex-president, but he has also sent emails and press releases to journalists to reach out with his message.

In the statements, he has continued to make the untrue claim that the election was stolen from him, as well as attacked his opponents.

In the state of Maricopa in Arizona, which Trump has without documentation claimed that he lost due to election fraud, a new count of just over 2.1 million votes is now taking place.

The US Department of Justice has expressed concern that the rules for the new census open up such a large margin of error that the company responsible for the census will be able to claim that Trump won the state, according to NTB.

– I do not know what the audit is about in Arizona, but I am ready to move on, Graham answered questions from journalists about the count according to The Hill.

The senator is also among those who have positioned themselves to become the presidential candidate for the Republican Party in 2024 if Trump does not run.

Among those who have done so are Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas, as well as House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senators Rick Scott, Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham.

Graham made headlines in November last year when a conversation between him and Brad Raffensperger, Georgia’s interior minister, was leaked.

Former Trump ally Graham was accused of allegedly pushing Raffensperger to invalidate votes in the US presidential election.

This is how the phone call is said to have gone: Graham is said to have asked about the state’s laws regarding signatures on ballot papers and whether political opinions may have caused election workers to accept ballot papers with signatures that did not match.

Graham then also asked if the Home Secretary had the power to invalidate all postal votes in counties with a high incidence of non-matching signatures.

Graham has denied that he proposed that the Home Secretary throw away illegal ballots.

– If he feels threatened by that conversation, then he has a problem. I think it was a good conversation, Graham said at the time, calling the accusations ridiculous.
