Limburg hairdressers threaten to open a business in Maastricht: “Government must wake up, because one Belgian after another is crossing the border for a haircut” | Maaseik

MaaseikFour Limburg hairdressers threaten to move to Maastricht to carry out their work there. Belgians cross the border en masse, because their hair can be cut there. “We could perfectly open a business there, but we are not going to do that. We remain in solidarity ”, says Ludovic Beckers from Maaseik.

Limburgers who go to the Netherlands to have their car washed or to have their hair cut, it happens. A lot of hairdressers know that too, and they can’t laugh about it. If it depends on Sven Bendotti, Ludovic Beckers, Luc Clerx and Luc Margiela, they open a pop-up hairdresser’s shop together in the heart of Maastricht.

“It could actually be perfect, because many customers already make that crossing,” says Ludovic Beckers. “My mother called me a little while ago to let me know that she sees one Belgian crossing the border after another. It is also logical, the rules are not the same. ”

Opening a hairdressing salon in the Netherlands to attract Belgian customers: there is no solidarity. But the four quickly make it clear that they are not really going to do that in practice. “We want to shake up the government and show how many gaps there are in the law. In the previous lockdown, the borders were also closed, and that had more effect. Now the borders are open and you will find 101 loopholes. We fear that the numbers have not risen fast enough in January and that we will have to remain closed for longer. It just doesn’t match what virologists and politicians say. Talk to the neighboring countries and draw the same line for everyone. ”
