Ligue 2: the situation of the Stade Malherbe de Caen is improving

The Stade Malherbe de Caen (Calvados), which plays in Ligue 2, had for two years been closely monitored by the DNCG (National Direction of Management Control), the financial policeman of French football. The management in particular of the payroll was strictly supervised, as long as the financial situation of the club was deemed critical. However, the institution has just lifted these supervisory measures.

It is the culmination of a rigorous plan to reduce the club’s costs which has led in particular to the elimination of nearly 30 positions as well as to the reduction of sports personnel.

“A pledge of serenity for the coming season”

A difficult situation to which were added heavy cyclical elements, starting with the health crisis, and with it, the collapse of box office receipts. TV broadcasting rights have also fallen.

Suffice to say that in such a context, the good news of the DNCG is greeted with relief by the club. “It is obviously an important pledge of serenity for us before starting a new season”, confirmed its general manager, Olivier Pickeu.

This remediation of the situation should indeed allow the new American shareholder Oaktree to truly launch his sports project, relayed by the television producer Pierre-Antoine Capton. It will then be a question of starting in the next few weeks, a new recruitment plan hoping as soon as possible to allow the club to return to Ligue 1.
