Ligue 1: Nice and Monaco fall, Marseille takes advantage

The tenth day of L1 has just ended and the time has come to take stock for the clubs of the South. On a positive dynamic before this weekend, Nice and Monaco were stopped in their tracks. This did not prevent Marseille from taking advantage of the missteps of its competitors to resume its forward march.

Nice and Monaco, big losers this weekend

It was the poster for this tenth day. Monaco traveled to Groupama Stadium in Lyon on Saturday evening. After three consecutive victories, the Monegasques were jostled against the conquering Lyonnais. If they resisted for 75 minutes, Niko Kovac’s men eventually gave in to the Lyon assaults. Toko-Ekambi opened the scoring from the penalty spot for Les Gones, before Denayer hit the nail on the head. Final score: 2-0 for Olympique Lyonnais. A real halt for AS Monaco, now tenth in the standings.

The second club in the region to play was OGC Nice. Before going to challenge Troyes yesterday on the lawn of the promoted, Nice is installed on the podium with only one defeat (against Lorient). Confident before the meeting, the Gym will be surprised from the start of the match in the 4th minute (Baldé). Despite a clear domination (11 shots at 8, 62% possession), the Aiglons fail to equalize and are ineffective. This second defeat of the season therefore ejects Galtier’s players from the podium. Nice is now fourth in the championship.

Large winner of Lorient, OM are back on the podium

Finally, if there is one club that takes advantage of the missteps of its local rivals, it is Olympique de Marseille. After three games without a win in Ligue 1, the Marseillais had to recover after the international break. In a boiling Velodrome, which paid a vibrant tribute to its “boss” Bernard Tapie, the Phocaeans once again showed a beautiful face. That of a serious contender for the podium, capable of titillating PSG. However, the match started badly since it was Lorient who scored first on a penalty from Laurienté (13 ′). But it is a kid from OM, Boubacar Kamara, who will sound the revolt (27 ′) on a center set back from Guendouzi. Parity score 1-1 at half-time, we say to ourselves that the Marseillais can sink as against Lille and Lens.

In the second half, it is a former Lorient house, Mattéo Guendouzi, who allows the Olympians to regain the advantage of a head lobed at the near post on a corner (56 ′). Marseille trembles, but ends up unrolling in the last minutes. Perfectly launched by Payet (two assists), Milik scores his first goal this season. Returning from injury, the Polish striker has lost none of his killer instinct in front of goal. That’s not all, to definitely pay homage to Tapie, a fourth goal was needed. And, once again, it is Guendouzi who will pull away to score a double. Victory without appeal of the Phocaeans (4-1). An ideal victory before chaining two high-stakes games. Olympique de Marseille will challenge Lazio on Thursday in the Europa League in Rome, before the long-awaited Clasico on Sunday against PSG.
