I totally agree with you that light year is cheaper, but I don’t think you can compare them 1 to 1 like this.

If you want to make a fair comparison, put solar panels on the tesla and make sure they generate the same amount of light year, take everything off the tesla to make sure they weigh exactly the same. Only then can you make a fair comparison.

It stands to reason that the light year is ahead in technology, the car is in principle not on the market and in my opinion it is still just a concept car. 1000 cars in total would mean not even the whole street could drive such a car here. This is nothing to billions of people.

Tesla has been on the market for more than 10 years, are they using highly obsolete technology? Well no, they are using outdated techniques now, but seriously outdated? 10 years ago there weren’t many all-electric cars on the market and most are still just petrol or diesel cars. Who then works on outdated technology, I wonder.

We know that the light year will only be on the market in 2026/2027 and if history has taught us anything, we know that there will certainly be another 1.5 or 2.5 years due to delays or shortages or lack of experience in manufacturing mass etc etc. Let’s assume that that car will be on the market in 2027, which is another 4 or 5 years (depending on the month it arrives on the market). Are you guessing that the manufacturers that are already doing mass production and already have millions of cars on the road are going to stick around and use the same techniques 5 years from now? I do not think so.

It should be clear that Tesla’s technology is no longer cutting edge, but we’re talking about a difference of at least 10 years (where newer Tesla models are actually better than older models). 10 years ago was the year of the iPhone 5S, which was Apple’s flagship model, now compare it to a model A from Samsung from recent years (model A wins with flying colors). And so it is with all techniques.
10 years ago you could only play Candy Crush or something like that on mobile devices and for that you needed a top model for a good experience. You can now play even more graphically intense games on a budget Xiaomi phone worth 100 euros.

Incidentally, Tesla’s goal was not to make money as quickly as possible with the underlying idea that if everyone gets an EV soon, it won’t be our problem. Tesla has started accelerating the electrification of the fleet (and they certainly have succeeded). Tesla has almost always only made one loss, so it would be weird to flush money down the toilet on purpose.

Are they the best cars? No Tesla had no experience in building cars and this is sadly visible but they made sure that manufacturers like BMW, Audi, Peugeot etc. etc. start producing electric vehicles faster? Anyway, I think so.
