LIGA – A few days before facing FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid perfectly negotiated the reception of Alavés this Saturday, at the Wanda Metropolitano (2-1). Saul Niguez and Diego Costa, on a more than generous penalty, scored. The Colchoneros secure their 3rd place.
Atlético de Madrid have found their rhythm. After two 1-0 victories against Valladolid and Levante, the Colchoneros won again by a single goal difference against Alavés at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday (2-1). Saul Niguez opened the scoring head (59), before Diego Costa took advantage of a more than questionable penalty to widen the gap (73). Joselu saved the honor for Alavés, from the penalty spot (90th). Diego Simeone’s men are still 3rd in Liga, before the shock against Barça next Tuesday.

Faced with the 15th in Liga, which most often abandoned the ball, Atlético took its time. Apart from an acrobatic attempt by Joao Felix (36th), the Colchoneros did not get many free chances, until the entrances of Marcos Llorente and Diego Costa. The first obtained a free kick, which Trippier placed on Saul’s head (59th), then a penalty truly fell from the sky and transformed quietly by the second (73rd). Atlético still won its 4th victory in 5 games since the resumption of the Spanish championship. Diego Simeone’s men have conceded only two goals since the La Liga restart.
