Liepaja Theater will start the season with Petrenko ‘s new production The news

Riga, August 17, LETA. The Liepāja Theater will open its doors to the audience on September 4, when the 114th season of the theater will be opened with the production “Mališ” directed by Dmitrij Petrenko, the representative of the theater Zanda Borg informed LETA.

The author of the play “Mališ” Marjus Ivaškevičs is one of the brightest contemporary Lithuanian playwrights, who has significantly influenced the Lithuanian literary and dramatic space, emphasizes the theater. His plays have already been staged in Latvia, the brightest event being the production “Expelled” at the Daile Theater in 2014.

“This will be a production of human nature – of the ability to face destiny, argue, guess or deceive it. People are often so preoccupied with doing things they can’t afford to forget about what is possible – to love them, who is next, act honestly and selflessly, “Petrenko said.

The play “Mališ” is made bilingually, but the director said that it will not be a show about Latvians and Russians. Both languages are chosen to maintain a sense of what is one’s own and foreign.

“1941 deprives a daughter of a father who is deported to Siberia. 1944 brings the son of a Siberian mother to Latvia to fight. This will not be a show about history, but about longing for home, human strength and at the same time powerlessness, hatred and at the same time love, and about growth, “the plot of the show described in the theater.

As the language of the play is very poetic, the artist Marija Ulmane has created a stage space conditional – the characters are not imprisoned in a specific room, but move freely, thus tearing down any borders between Latvia and Siberia. Thus, in the stage space, the characters exist on both the everyday and poetic level.

Actors Karīna Tatarinova, Ilze Trukšāne, Mārtiņš Kalita and Kaspars Gods will take part in the production. Reinis Ozoliņš, who creates the musical design, and lighting artist Mārtiņš Feldmanis also help to create the show.
