“Liepāja” loses in the debut of the new European Nordic Basketball League – Basketball

Liepāja residents lost to the Estonian team “Tartu Universitāte” / “Maks & Moorits” with the result 53:61 (14:15, 13:12, 12:13, 14:21) in Vidzeme Olympic Center, Valmiera.

Roberts Bērziņš was the most productive in the “Liepājas” team with 15 points, but Verners Kohs added ten points.

Emanuel Vembi scored in Tartu with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Latvian basketball player Edmunds Elksnis scored 11 points and returned seven assists.

Eight teams from Latvia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus and Russia will start in the first season of ENBL.

Latvia will be represented by the Liepāja and Valmiera teams, which took the fourth and fifth place in the local championship last season. Also in the tournament will play Czech fourth place owner “Brno”, Poland 13th place Wloclawek “Anwil”, Lithuania’s seventh strongest club “Šiauliai”, Belarusian vice-champion Mogilev “Borisfen”, Estonia’s sixth team “University of Tartu” / “Maks & Moorits” and Krasnoyarsk “Yenisei” took 11th place in the United League.

The goal of ENBL is to bring together already 16 teams next year, which would be divided into Baltic and North Sea divisions, adding clubs from the Nordic and Benelux countries.

The organizers of ENBL have previously founded the European Women’s Basketball League (EWBL), which has proven to be an international tournament binding on clubs.
