Lieke Steeg (11) from Millingen is just a seventh grader when she is hit by a car on her way home from school. She died instantly. A year later, her father, mother and sister share their grief.

“If only I had let her sleep.” Instead, Lydia Steeg says to her daughter Lieke on September 3, 2019: “Get up! You’ll be late for school soon. ” Lieke goes to school. Lydia to her work in Arnhem.

She will not see her daughter alive again. On the way back from her eleventh day at high school, Millingse Lieke (11) is hit by a car on a cycle path near Persingen. She died instantly.

Of course, says mother Lydia (46), you cannot imagine that every word you say to your children can be the last. But she occasionally thinks it. If only I had just let Lieke sleep. Then this hell would never have broken loose.
