Lewis Hamilton far behind again – Leclerc in best starting track – VG

Lewis Hamilton (37) and Mercedes are still without a chance in the best starting positions. Ferrari secured the two best starting tracks – with the Red Bull drivers as three and four in qualifying in Miami late Saturday night.

The Briton was almost a second behind the very best and finished sixth. Lewis Hamilton has earlier this year had the qualifying places 5, 16, 5 and 13.

Hamilton’s Mercedes colleague George Russell had to see himself knocked out already in Q2. It seemed like he was in trouble with the car. He only gets the 12th best starting position on Sunday.

Charles Leclerc drove in to best time and pole position ahead of Ferrari colleague Carlos Sainz, while Max Verstappen gets the third best starting track on Sunday.

Valtteri Bottas, Hamilton’s teammate in Mercedes in 2021, impressed a lot in his Alfa Romeo, and secured the fifth best starting track.

– It is incredible to be here in the US and see how the sport has grown. It motivates! says Leclerc in an interview with former racing star Danica Patrick.

– It will be an interesting race on Sunday. The car is good to drive here, says Sainz.

Max Verstappen had a period of best qualifying time, but in the end had to settle for the third best starting track:

– The important thing was to learn the track and find the balance in the car, says the Dutchman in the interview shown on Viaplay.

– We have a good chance on Sunday.

This is the season’s fifth Grand Prix race. Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen have both won two races so far – but the Ferrari driver is a great one overall as Verstappen has had two “zeros”.
