Tottenham’s search for a new manager is proving stressful.

In fact, the Spurs’ main targets seem to be dropping like flies. Brendan Rodgers does not want the job, Erik Ten Hag has just signed a new contract, while Julian Nagelsmann has joined Bayern Munich.

Tottenham’s list of finalists is getting shorter and shorter, and it is now reported that there is a growing belief in the club that Ryan Mason could land the job full-time.

Naming a 29-year-old who has only managed three senior games in his life would be a bold move by the Spurs, but it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve done something like this.

In fact, in 2013, the Spurs appointed Tim Sherwood as their permanent manager after two games as interim boss, even though he had never held a senior management position before.

Unfortunately, Sherwood’s time at Tottenham didn’t exactly go as planned. He was fired at the end of that season and, in the end, his inexperience was shown.

Sherwood had a similar background to Mason, he was a youth coach who was in the right place at the right time, but the worst part is that Mason is even more inexperienced than Sherwood.

Yes, Mason has won both league games he has coached thus far, but victories against a struggling Southampton and Sheffield United that is among the worst teams the Premier League has seen shouldn’t put him in contention for one of the most important jobs in England.

Levy has already made the mistake of naming a rookie coach who once lacked credentials, so doing it again would be almost inexplicable.

Could Mason one day be a successful manager? Of course it could, but right now, the Spurs need someone experienced and proven to run the boat, not a 29-year-old with a month of experience driving at this level.

If Daniel Levy named Mason, they would be shadows of Tim Sherwood’s appointment, and we all know how that turned out.
