Overshadowed by a medical emergency and half an hour of ghostly silence in the stadium, Bayer Leverkusen has entered the semi-finals of the German cup competition. The Rhinelander prevailed in the quarterfinals against Union Berlin 3-1 (0-1) on Wednesday.
After the goals of Karim Bellarabi (72.), Charles Aranguiz (86.) and Moussa Diaby (91.), Bayer fans can dream of the first title since the cup victory in 1993. Union was close to participating in the second semi-final after 2001 after Marcus Ingvartsen (39) had taken the lead. After the yellow-red card for Christopher Lenz (71.), the guests ran out of steam.
Austrian Leverkusen players Julian Baumgartlinger, Aleksandar Dragovic and Ramazan Özcan experienced the game from the substitute bench. In the Berliners Christopher Trimmel came on in the 73rd minute.
