Lāčplēsis Day has arrived. Today, November 11, we will honor our hero Lāčplēsis – a fighter of crusaders and Christian missionaries. Lāčplēsis lives in each of us (except for the churchmen, because they are skeptical of the Gentiles). Lāčplēsis is the embodiment of our desire for freedom and Latvianness. Lāčplēsis is a true son of the Latvian Gods. Lāčplēsis is the protector of the entire Latvian nation. On this holiday, we will light candles on the windowsill in the colors of the national flag. Two blood red and one white. Let’s light a fire in the yard of our house. Let’s smoke juniper twigs and wormwood bundles. Let’s donate a handful of coins by the fire in honor of Lāčplēsis. Let’s put a loaf of rye bread and a cup of beer in the woods in honor of the souls of our departed soldiers. Let us honor the souls of fallen soldiers who gave their lives for the independence of our country. Let us forgive our government – politicians, officials and greedy entrepreneurs – for their shortcomings, mistakes and crimes against their people. Let us forget the resentment against our country and government. Let’s not live in the past, let’s look to the future. Let’s think about the development and prosperity of our country in the coming centuries. Let’s be responsible landlords in our land. Let us be proud that we are a small and free nation on the Baltic coast. Let’s be proud of our charming country – Latvia. Latvia is a gift from the Latvian Gods to our nation. Let’s take care of the prosperity and future of our country together! Let us pray to the Latvian Gods that our free nation will flourish and prosper! Let us pray to Thunder, Heavenly Father, for our Thunder to guard the boundaries of our earth! Let us pray for the Mother of Nature – Our Creator – for the Mother of Nature to give our people strength and courage! Let us pray to Laima, the Goddess of Fate, for Laima to bring good luck and wealth to our people! Let us pray the Mother of Linen – the Queen of the Baptism – for the Mother of Linen to give our people a long and fruitful life! Let us respect the signs of strength of ancient Latvia and the wisdom of our ancestors! Let’s live harmoniously and friendly! Praise the Latvian Gods forever and ever! May Lāčplēsis protect my people forever and ever!
