‘Let there be a peaceful transfer of power’, until then ‘block’ for Trump Mark Zuckerberg | Mark Zuckerberg announces Trump banned from Facebook and Instagram

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said that the ‘block’ on US President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts will continue indefinitely for at least two weeks until the peaceful transfer of power is completed. On Wednesday, Twitter and Facebook took action against Trump for allegedly sharing posts that incited attacks.

Twitter, which hid three of Trump’s tweets, also asked him to remove them. He also warned that the account would be frozen if tweets inciting violence were not removed. Trump’s video post was removed from Facebook and Instagram yesterday. In it, Trump asked the rebels who had besieged the capital building in Washington to go home and told the same assailants, “We love you.”

Many came out with strong reactions against this. Trump’s Facebook accounts were frozen for 24 hours. Mark Zuckerberg said that the content of Trump’s posts was previously labeled as false or removed if it was found to be against their policy.

“He has so far been allowed to use our platform in accordance with our own laws, but that has now changed as our platform has been used to incite violent rebellion against the democratically elected government,” he said.

With just a few days to go before stepping down, Trump’s decision to freeze his account shows a shocking shift from Facebook’s long – standing attitude towards the world leader. It is also worth noting that with Trump stepping down on January 20, Facebook will now face Joe Biden and his entourage, who may be keen to intervene in their business and impose restrictions.
